Spliting the case

Anyone ever split the case with the flywheel still on? can it be done ? like going to the junk yard and looking at the motor 4 u buy , BUT no air gun to get the nut off! :?: :oops:

Beetle engine yes, bus engine no.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

There are case bolts behind the flywheel on a T4 motor.

The Type 4 engines have a nut behind the flywheel. However, the Type 4 engine is easier to remove the flywheel as it has 5 smaller bolts instead of the one huge one the Type 1 has.
