Operating Voltage for D-Jet and L-Jet Fuel Injectors

Post by pilothyer »

I have set up a means to test fuel injectors using a spare fuel pump, pressure regulator and fuel rail. Now all I need to know is first, are the fuel injectors polarized? and What is the voltage that the ECU sends to the injectors? I know I will need to pulse the voltage to test spray patterns and conduct volume tests. Also would the voltage be the same for the D-Jet and L-Jet? I do know the Fuel loop pressures are a little different between the two...........Thanks for your reply....Jerry

D/Ljet use a dropping resistor pack to limit the current, just find a stock one, might be able to use 2-3 ballast resistors to make up the required resistance. (Sorry, don't recall the spec off the top of my head, Ray might)

The supplied voltage is 12v (nominal) but the resistance must be right or you are likely to smoke the coils.

They are low impedance injectors.
Also, polarity does not matter.

AFAIK, D/L Jet use basically the same injectors, but the pressures are slightly different---Acually DJet uses a FIXED pressure, and LJet uses a vacuum referenced pressure regulator, to reduce pressure at idle.

Different flow range injectors are color coded--- IIRC the 2.0s were green plastic, the 1.7s/1.8s were yellow... I think.

Remember---The object of the exersize is verifying spray patterns and making sure the injectors flow the SAME, or reasonably close.
(They also must meet spec, obviously, but flowing the ~SAME is as important)

FWIW, You can get a modified DJet reg from Summit etc that is vacuum referenced, this allows some fine tuning via fuel pressure.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Just to clarify, the modded Mr. Gasket D-Jet reg (vacuum referenced) would be used on LJet.

You're welcome!

Charge that fire extinguisher.
