steering box

Post by bspeedy »

Wondering if anyone knows how best to a fix a leak out of the bottom plate of the steering box. I have a 64 DC and I scraped the bottom of the box where this plate is. I've tried to tighten the 4 screws but it's not helping the leak. The box works fine. Soon there will be no fluid and I'll need to fix this. Is there a gasket underneath this plate? Do I need another box? What's the best fluid replacement, gear oil, STP/gear oil, etc.? Thanks.

Clean it up and try some Curil or silicone. I have used grease. Some rebuilders wanted people to use 1/2 stp and 1/2 grease.
