Anyone running a front mount oil cooler?
I just got my system all plumbed up.
3/8" hardline all the way to the front of the car.
Spin on oil filter and oilcooler are in the front of the car.
I upgraded my oil pump to a heavy duty unit.
Anyone have any tips on priming the system?
Also anyone running an electric oil pump to help the oil get all the way to the front of the car?

Mines not in the front, but I have a 2 quart filter...

I filled the filter with oil, I also put grease on the pump gears. I then put the hose on the out side of the pump, and put a funnel in it, and poored some oil down the hose back into the pump and then put the hose on my filter. I then turned the engine over with the spark plugs removed from the heads, and presto, oil pressure nearly instantly.

Now, my hoses don't run to the front of the car, but I do have a big filter, and this was on a fresh engine. You may want to hook the oil hoses up at the back of the car and put some temp clear hose on the fittings at the front of the car and slowly poor some oil into the hoses. I would get enough clear tubing so I can hold the funnel at some height above the engine to help the oil flow through all those tubes... Then hook the hoses up and turn it over with out plugs in the heads and see how it goes. I assume you used some good assembly lube on everything right?

I have an off topic question. What is that rack-n-pinion out of? It looks like it fits pretty well.

The rack was out of a rabbit.it fit perfectly But unfortunately when i turned the steering wheel the wheels went the wrong way. haha. I have changed to a bmw rack and everything works good with the porsche 944 spindles. will post pics soon.

You should run the Mazda RX7 cooler. It would fit way better/nicer and looks like it would fit right where your louvers are.

On my wife's 57 speedster(2180) I'm running a dog house shroud with stock cooler and a setrap oil cooler up front behind the small horn hole. On 90F plus days the temp maxs at 195F at 65-70mph. On cool evenings it will barely reach 170F(I need a themostat).
On my 67 Germanlook(2332) with Porsche shroud I will install an RX7 cooler up front. If I don't get the same results as my wife's car then I will consider installing a doghouse or DTM shroud especially when I add the blow-turbo setup

and also.. im buildin a german look car and was wondering what the bennifit is for having the oil cooler in front vs under the car by the tranny... ( i know cooler air up front, but just thought id ask)

and also... with having the cooler up front, how many qrts does it take to fill, and when you change your oil, do you just change whats in the motor and leave whats in the lines?

Pressure drop in a 3/8" line of that distance will be quite large. I highly suggest going to at least 1/2" tube.

To the best of my knowledge 1st & 2nd gen RX-7's use that oil cooler.

I'm running a front mount on my daily/sons 1303, it runs a mild 1904cc. I got rid of the stock cooler in the fan housing and fitted one in the front vented apron, it never gets hot in traffic and until recently it was blocked by a Kamei spoiler. I'm running 1/2 inch line to the front of the car.

After a 10 minute track sessions on Sunday (29th November 2009) on a 30+c (80F) day it stayed at 100c (212F), on the open road, on a 30+c at high speeds (110-120 kph) it ranges between 80c and 100c (176 - 212F).

i run a 30mm type4 pump now, but ran the stock type4 pump (24mm) before. works also.
