elec. fuel pump recommendation

Post by Gunthner »

My friend and I both installed new sets of Kadrons on our buses and are having electric fuel pump problems. We bought what the local FLAPS stocked along with stock fuel regulators, but the pumps don't seem to last. What brand of pump have others used that work better than what we purchased?

If you're interested in what has been happening here goes. I was driving to the shop last night and the bus was running nicely. Pull up to the stop light, the bus dies and won't restart. I wait for the traffic to empty and I push the bus across the street to an empty parking lot. Ten minutes later the bus starts and off I go.

When I get to the shop I let it idle for ten minutes with no problems. Then when I leave a couple of hours later I make it home (the bus always gets you home), but then dies in my driveway. I wait ten minutes, climb back in behind the wheel and the bus starts.

You did not mention which brand you were using. now I have had good service from Facet(Purolator), it can be a little noisey, rubber isolators will reduce the noise (pulses). I have tried CB Performance pumps, they have a neat 3.5# set up for about $50, I have found that it has a problem pumping against a head (uphill fuel line) on start ups in which I was getting no fuel I had to pull the fuel hose off the carb to release any pressure and then the pump will start to flow fuel. There is also Piesler (not sure of that spelling), which is a German pump, it puts out 4.5# and is quite good. Then if you really want lots of fuel there is Holley and Carter electric pumps.

No matter which pump you get, it needs to be installed so the pump is fed fuel, the "In" line to the pump is the same height to the outlet of the tank or slightly below it.

Did you double check your electrical connections. I feel I do a pretty good job when it comes to wiring things up but found I had a bad connection that was causing intermittent problems.

What are you using to trigger/power the pump?
