79 t2 into 76 bus

Post by cellobus »

Hi, I am about to rebuild my stock '76 bus engine (GD prefix) and found a running 79 (GE prefix) motor that I hope to install while rebuilding the original so there is as little downtime as possible. 2 questions, (1) will the computer freak out with a later engine in there and (2) are the crankshaft lengths the same? I had heard that the later engines had a shorter crank that didn't reach far enough into the transaxle. For that matter, what engine number prefixes would bolt right in?

The swap should be pretty simple if you have the complete exhaust for the 79, as the 79 has different shaped exhaust ports. There is no difference in the crankshaft. The computer will probably not know the difference.

Bingo. I found a GE yesterday, complete with exhaust out of a bus with a bad transmission.

:D
