Stabilizer bar 83 Westy.

Post by Piper »

Just crawling around under my bus, and noticed the stabilizer link bushing on my driver side is a little wonky. It can't slide off the end of the bar, because of the large end on the bar, but it does slide in towards the middle of the van. The bushing seems fine, and the bar does as well, in fact I can't see any visible difference between sides, except that I can move the drivers side around. The bus drives fine, and I just had the tie rods, and ball joints checked. Is this really dangerous, normal, or what? I was planning to drive the bus to Durham on Sat morning, should I perhaps take the Subaru?

I don’t think it is supposed to move far from that position, just enough to give from a little stress.

Can you tighten the bottom? Is it at correct torque?

Took it to my local VW guy, it is broken, but he jury rigged it so I could take it camping for the weekend. Ordered new parts from busdepot, and am waiting for them to come in. It's near the end of the season up here in Ontario anyway, but I had to get one more trip in at least.
