I saw that over on jalopnik.
I wonder what the outcome is going to be.

this type of situation is why I run every single $200 scrap bug I get by a policeman friend to get the VIN run before I start messing with it.

She'll never get it back. Insurance co will charge her 50k for it. Crooks.

if they were able to trace it back through the VIN, then how were other people registering it before the Arizona shop got their hands on it?

Forget the police and DMV's doing much of anything right when it comes to stolen cars. My brother had a car stolen in the Bay area. It was missing for months and my brother had been told that it had more than likely been parted out. He only found out after a couple of month that it was in a police impoundment, when they sent him a notice that they were going to auction it off. The thief had parked it illegally and it had already been towed to the impoundment lot before my brother even knew it had been stolen.

I can't believe that this doesn't happen everyday.
