Can someone get me a measurement, please?

I am thinking of buying a 914, and in light of swapping potential, I would like to know if anyone who owns a 914 can supply me with the dimensions of the distance between the rear strut towers, and also the distance between the rear trailing arms. I realize this dimension is wider the further back you go, so I guess 3"-5" in front of the axle would suffice. Hopefully someone can help as I've always wanted a 914, and I like doing swaps.

What are you wanting to swap in there? Someone might have done the swap and can post pics.

I would like to use a vw 16v and transverse transaxle. I've looked and looked, but I don't believe it's been done. I don't plan on cutting up a good car to do this, something that's is alredy worse for ware. You know, a hood ride. An no thankyou on the Fiat.

COOL! I hope you know I was joking...
Anywho, it hasn't been done due to the amount of work it would take.
The bay is just too narrow for the transverse setup.
IF you wnat to do a LOT of cutting and *widening* of said engine bay, of course,
ANYTHING can be done!
As the old saying goes, "If it was easy, everyone would be doing it!"

Actually height would probably be a bigger issue...
You would also have to cut the front of the trunk out.
A VR6 (or W8/10

) on a Audi//Boxster S 6 speed might be a simple, great longnitudinal mount setup tho.
(wonder if it would bolt up?)
My back yard work area is underwater, but the Pile currently has the motor/trans out...
I'll try and get you a measurement, but it might be a couple days.

That sir, would be awsome. I realize I will need to cut the front of the rear trunk floor, which is why I need the dim. between the rear strut towers. I have seen a vw G60 , and a 1.8t in a 914, but they were longitudinal, so I think the height won't be an issue. I come from a VW water cooled (and aircooled) back ground, and I have quite a collection of motors and transaxles. It's what I know.
