My 1972 Bus

Post by Runamuck Bus »

I've had her for about 4 years now, working on just about everything you could touch. I still have miles to go, but I thought I should introduce myself and attempt to post here.
Here she is shortley after being brought home:

Another shot, 3+ years later, she sees sunshine again!

There is a new (used) front beam in her future; she failed inspection for ball joints!!!

Mostly, I just want to drive to camp and car shows. Also, people are tired of my stories, they want rolling proof!

Nice, welcome aboard! What besides the beam have you done to her?

Nice looking Old English you got there...

The Old English is named Daisy Jane - my dog I didn't want, long story. Here is another long story -
*Scraped, chipped and ground (grinded?) all/most of the undercoat off of the underside. Then painted with rubberized undercoating.
*New rear drums, pads, hardware, all sanding, rust-proofing, painted
*New front Rotors, Pads, pins, sanding, rust-proofing, painting
*bearings re-packed
*new brake line - hard and flexible
*new master cylinder
*rebuilt booster
*new shocks
*interior removed, cleaned bed, sand, r-proof, paint
*new sub floor, w/linoleum; re-install cleaned interior pieces (Westy)
*R&R Fuel tank (thank you Colin K. aka Amskeptic)
*newer fill neck, new fuel lines
*acquire/install charcoal cannister
*acquire/install aux fan (not hooked up yet)
*relocate fuel filter (out of engine compartment)
*plugs, wires, rotor, distributor cap, condensor
*new battery
*clean/paint engine compartment
*clean/paint/patch driver/passenger front floor. Got a nice mat and kick panels
*I love BLING - Wifey acquired $5 evil-bay front emblem; front spare tire holder removed
*I love BLING - I got 4 nice trim rings (cheap) @ Carlisle, PA Car Show
*I love BLING - got Deluxe, Stainless front grille trim piece (rough but workable)
*Bodywork - welded 3-piece metal trim to lower windshield lip
*New Windshield
*Bodywork - Welded battery tray, prime, paint, undercoat
*Bodywork - Welded Replacement Lower Front Nose Skin
*Bodywork - Rear of Front Wheel Wells - Welded patch pieces
*Bodywork - Patch Rocker panel under Slider

There is more, I'm sure. Along the way, I have acquired many new tools, I scab parts everywhere I go, I've inflated the coffers of a few parts houses. Bought some books (many), a video, subscribed to several VW forums, had a visit from an 'Itinerant Air Cooled' guy, attended a few shows (some in the wifeys '92 Cabby - she had to have it). In general, just tackling this job as I can - sometimes a little run-a-muck!
