"Type3" front spoiler.

Post by Piledriver »

I apologise for the funky color remapping, the spoiler is black, the car is currently dark brown and the lighting wasn't perfect. It's basically invisible without jacking with the image, but pretty clear like this.

As I suspected, a Golf Mk1 deep duckbill spoiler fits reasonably well, at least on a stock height car.
(I bought an extra just to try it)

I'll attempt more pics in better lighting, but this should give you the idea.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

The deep one works on a stocker, but I'll eventually be ordering the "normal" Mk1 Golf duckbill.

The deep one is pretty effective, much less blowing around at 70MPH.

The std one will likely work as well an look a bit less... extreme, and allow a bit of drop.

I'll probable be putting a splitter more than a spoiler b/c its lowered.
The MK duckbill would make my fasty a plow.

Would anyone be interested in something like this for a type 3?

I'm looking at maybe having someone make some for the type 3. Maybe a buy in of some sort if there is enough interest

I am working on an airdam that will be going on my shop-car that will be similar to the one on that beetle, but not as over the top goddy. I'm not ready to let the cat out of the bag just yet, but it will be tunable, very functional, and look good without being over the top.

I wish there was a Kamei style one for type 3's, then Carbon Joe could make a super sweet CF one.

If Kamei ever made one for a late Ghia, late T3 takes the same front bumper...
But the Mk1 Golf units are cheap and effective.

Look up about 4 posts at the Bright Yellow Fasty.

I will say that the GTi (deep duckbill) essentilally eliminates getting blown around by trucks.

If you are not slammed it works very well.

I hit a truck tread at 70+ MPH and wiped 1/2 mine off, but there's little that could have survived that short of something all steel, and then it might have damaged the body instead of taking the bullet.

I probably could havd even bolted it back on, but fast heavy traffic prevented safe recovery.

I remember when the std Golf units were $15 and you could pick one up at any dealer...

I know, I meant bone stock with the late bumpers
I guess I'll have to try it myself :D
