1st INTERIOR

1 dome light with 3 positions
off/door/on


I Want 2 LED strips under the dash
and 2 in the rear (1 on eitherside) on the pinchweld facing In
my idea is:
one wire to a close ground (probably fuse box)
one wire up to the dome light
one wire at a pole on the driver door switch(same as one that comes from other door?)

am i correct?

and if so can someone tell me wich on the driver door switch to hook it to

i have to look again tomorow
But i would like to replace both With LEDs
my ? is
i dont see that i have 2 greys going to the smaller of the 2 bulbs
Im trying to have the White LEDs be on by themselves as Running Lights
But Orange ones to Blink

is there a wire that i can unhook or hook up differently?

IF you want to control all the LEDS off doors and dome light switch.... The red wire to dome light fixture from fuse supplies the 12 volts to dome light ("W" in diagram) ..... The brown/wire wire is the GROUND wire from door switch to dome light dome light... Plain brown wire in dome light is ground for controlling dome light (on off) by switch in dome light...

MY take on this would be to "tap" system at dome lamp (lamp side of switch) and run wire to a relay to act as switch (switches ground) for all your LEDS and tap 12 volt fuse for power side of LEDS...

All the LEDS should act the same as dome lamp in "normal" situation...

IF you just want LEDS to follow door switches, you can just connect 'control' (ground) to either switch (F2 or F3) at same terminal as brown/white wire....

On my '71 Standard Beetle, I ran a 2 wire cable up from the trunk area to the dome light. I then soldered one wire to each side of the metal srips holding the bulb in place.
I then wired this to a LED strip under the dash. It will work in both light switch positions and gives great light to my interior.

I've had the same thing in my bug for a year or so now.

I bought a bunch of LED strips off Ebay and stuck 2 under the dash, 2 under the front seats for rear footwell courtesy lights and 1 inside the glovebox which runs off the speedo lights.

The ones under the dash and seats I ran + straight to the fusebox and negative is connected to the spring the holds the interior light globe.

By doing that it means all the LEDs do whatever the interior light is set to ie. on off or door mode.

Oh yeah if you wanna use LEDs for turn signals you're gonna have to get an LED compatible flasher.

I did all that a few years back but ended up removing them, LEDs arent real safe for turn signals in a vw light cos they are too directional - nice and bright from straight on but dont show real well to the side like a stock filament bulb does
