356 speedos have a 'green zone' between like 25 and 45 mph. I know what the green zone on the TACH means, but am curious to know what the green zone on the speedo denotes....any one care to conjecture? vw freak here, former 914-6 owner, also 2 ghias, 1 beetle, 1 van and a 411 too!...
Because the VW did not have a tach, the green zones were there to indicate shift point speed in gears.
I don't have one in front of me right now to look at, but I remember the max speed in each gear actually corrosponded to the synchro shift point. You could shift there without the clutch. I actually did this the first time I found out about the green zones. It was a lot of fun.
