I think it was on Muscle Cars on Spike where they took a stud gun and used it to shrink metal using an accessory tip

The brand they used was a Matco Tools SS5150, Deluxe Pro Stud Spotter Kit. The shrinking tip was under $15 but the gun kit is over $750. I think the HF is cheaper but I don’t know much about the tip and if it would be interchangeable.

Yep, I borrowed one to pull dents out of a 66 bus. Worked like a champ. We did use a better slide hammer. This allowed us to rework a door that I thought was un-salvageable but with some help and this gizmo we pulled out everything within 1/4 inch. Nice tool. I had help with this, sometimes it is not obvious how to get the dent out without stretching or otherwise making it worse.
edit - I just remembered, we used vice grips to grab the stud and then a slide hammer with a hook to pull on the vice grip.

Thanks Theo I borrowed one from a friend and he has the vice grips screwed to the slide hammer.

seems a decent enough tool, be careful not to let it over heat, a few second of stud welding to 15 minutes of waiting for it to cool down
i found, only use the smaller studs that came with it, with the bigger ones the machine over heats too easily

The HF one is OK at best.. actually a waste of $100 bucks..
It's like any of the electric stuff from HF. It's hit and miss.

Like stated if used cautiously it should work. It seems to be a copy of this one that I have. I bought it quite awhile ago for $200 on the Matco Truck. First job paid for it.

The Harbor Freight one is fine, it's the slide hammer that comes with it is poor quality. I used it on my Dodge truck when I was pulling dents out of the bed.
