I have a 67 bug with a short swing axle rear. The previous owner changed the rear backing plates and wheel cylinders to IRS type run the 315 type 40mm wide rear shoes with 69+ 4 lug drums with a cut down hub.
I want to run 5 wide Mangel wheels I picked up. I have new 67 rear drums and 270 type 30mm wide rear shoes, but the shoes do not fit properly on the IRS backing plates and wheel cylinders.
Is my only option to run 67 backing plates and wheel cylinders? I know I can run Thing drums but cannot take the extra wheel offset.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Grant

Isn't there a type 3 drum that will work?

No, Type III brakes are larger in diameter. This is a double-post, see viewtopic.php?f=18&t=143529
