New backing plate prob. - Help Please!

The thing that holds the star adjuster in place on my new backing plate broke off when I was putting the star adjuster on.
Is there a fix for this?
I decided to use the old backing plate. It is not in that bad of shape.
I have already installed the other new backing plate on the left side. It appears to be OK.
TIA!

I suppose it is a good idea that before installing a new backing plate, gently flick the star adjuster holder pin to see if it breaks off or not.

Those leaf springs are "staked" into place and there's no substitute method that I know of which is trustworthy - you're better off without it than with it if there's any chance it'll fall off inside.
Do you have any access to a welder? I'm not suggesting trying to weld directly to the spring since it'd probably weaken it or at least soften it but perhaps you could engineer a little strap to weld across over it to keep it from falling out if the stakes should fail.
Or, you could drill a hole through the backing plate in line with the star and weld a little nut to the outside; then a little bolt/screw could be twirled in to engage the star after adjustment, and locked in place with a jam nut.

Replacement springs are available "somewhere" on internet... I have seen them, but can not direct you to the site ....

If you understand the "staking" process and can do it properly there is no reason you can not replace the "spring" and stake it in properly and have a reliable fix for your problem...
