Pleated paper air filters?

I noticed a tear in one of my Dellorto air cleaners, so I need some new ones. I'll go K&N if I have to, but I'd rather have a standard paper element-type filter. Does anyone have a part # for one that will fit a Dell-type air cleaner assembly?

There was mention of one in the offroad forum a while ago. I would also like to know. It is supposed to be a direct fit for standard IDF size oval filters.

There is at least one ?dodge mini van? pre 1990 that has the same enough shape, but much taller.

You might also consider a dryflow filter from AEM. I'll never use a K&N again.

I guess that's what I'll do. I have been unable to find a paper filter of the right size that's oval or even a round one that could be smooshed to the right shape. Thanks for the heads-up on the AEM, I hadn't heard about those.

I checked the AEM site. They don't have anything in IDF/DRLA size.

Do you have the dimensions for a round one?

I don't see the circumference on there anywhere, which would be needed in order to calculate the "round" equivalent.

I fought this battle awhile back...
AMSOIL used to make them in their synthetic washables, but they were discontinued.
Perhaps you might find some old stock?

Uni may have something.
If all else fails, clean the torn spot with brake cleaner and blow dry...
spooge some shoo-goo into the torn spot and wrap the K&Ns with oiled Uni outers.
More or less uses the K&Ns as internal supports for the UNI, but at least they will be good for something.

Along those lines, the Oz-based division of UNI makes some interesting setups, consider what is possible with slabs of foam, glue, some wire and a welder.

http://www.uniflow.com.au/contents/en-us/d136.html

They can probably make the important foam bits to spec on a custom basis at a quite reasonable price.

(The US website is far less interesting, but they DO list outers for Weber sized K&Ns)

The last time I tried looking for a DRLA filter that wasn't a K&N, I ended up putting turbo hats on the carbs and pipinig them to a filter housing located elsewhere.

As discussed elsewhere, that is a good power loser for N/A.

The offroad forum guys had paper pleated IDF direct drop in #. We just need to find the info.

This is annoying:

Maybe we need to ask UNI to make filters for IDFs etc.

Somebody makes supports for weber ar cleaners... cheap even.
These are for Weber wire mesh filters, but I can see it as a good first pass as a support for a Uni setup.

Matching(?) NO-oil foam element, not sure if worth a darn, but ...

No one should be forced to buy gauze filters.
They are marginal on actual racing vehicles as they don't filter jack, and ring seal is the #1 power adder.

These would actually work if you could secure it to the baseplate well, but come from the UK, not sure the free shipping is valid

If you wanted to go with a UNI filter the one below should work.
