If you are going to, use a heat sync to protect the sensor.

I've mounted two in that position without a heat sink with no issues.. Give it a shot

You lose so much heat through the primary tubes it won't be a problem, mine's in the same spot and it's never given me any troubles.

You are suppose to mount the o2 sensor below horizontal ie so where the electrical pug is pointing downward just a little. This is to protect the sensor from burning out when you start it in the morning and its got condensation on it.

You are thinking backwards... Sensor has to at or above horizontal, vertical is best (sensor pointing straight down) Bosch recommends 10 degrees above horizontal at a minimum. http://wbo2.com/lsu/lsuinstal.pdf

The proposed location is probably OK (run an EGT sensor there temporarily to check temp under boost), the heat sink setups are typically used for "upstream" or near the ex port WBO2, but an opton if the EGT probe says the temp is too hiot under boost.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
