Exhausts
Probably well asked...
I am running a Cali converted t4 in an early bay and it runs well. I used to have an empi single quiet pack header and home made turbo muffler.
I swapped to an empi dual quiet pack and lost power / performance as each bank of cylinders are Siamese and don’t scavenge.
I’ve since bought a bursch system from a 914 to fit.
What experience of these headers do people have - what’s best?
I have a bunch of silencers and I want to make a twin bas style system that’s quiet and free flowing. It is a camper and the drone of the turbo muffler is not great!!

Re: Exhausts
I made my own, I've a similar system on a split camper , a triflow muffler combined with a resonator normally kills the drone .

Re: Exhausts
That looks stunning!
I do plan on something similar in my bug when I get there - I’ve saved your picture. Amazing work - what size tubing did you use?
Agreed on the first box, that’s what ‘normal’ cars use as their front silencer I think - pleases to read it does work well on your setup. #ideasstealing
With the bus I want to use heater boxes so I’m stuck with a compromise anyway. I don’t have time to make one at the moment as we use the bus almost weekends hence I’ve stockpiled parts!
Does a type 4 prefer a header with 4-1 or 2-1,2-1? Anyone know?

Re: Exhausts
2.5 inch pipe and mufflers , (engine is 2.6lt) the Camper has 2.25 inch , (2.3 lt ) . if you don't have a proper 4 in to 1 collector or a tuned Tri Y system In my opinion you're giving away a lot of horsepower and most likely causing the heads to run hotter than they would with a good exhaust . I just bought the mandrel bends and a bit of straight pipe and pieced them together .

That sounds great.
I have one of these headers:

It’s a 2 into 1 then 2 into 1 again. Ignore the box. What do you reckon as a header?

Re: Exhausts
I don't have any info on them but the pairing looks correct for a Tri Y ,you can run the exhaust system to the left around the engine .

Re: Exhausts
Yeah I thought that it looked ok and suites heater boxes plus running two silencers in series.
I think the header pipes aren’t equal length though, but it’s gotta be better than my empi twin quiet pack!

Re: Exhausts
I have this same header. I'm using it with VS header pipes and a two, round, inline muffler set up like the BAS tail pipe.
Unfortunately, the engine is not assembled so I can't report whether or not it works well.
I will say those Turbo Thomas offerings are pretty nice
