My 'new' 74' 914 2.0L came with fog lights. Do the fog lights function independently from the head lights? The switch lights up when the head lights are activated and I pull the fog light switch out, but the bulbs don't light up(could be bad bulbs). When the headlights are not activated, the fog light switch does not light up and , of course, nothing happens- advice? Thanks-Rolf

As delivered OE they do not operate independently from the HL's. IE you must have your HL's active to allow the Fogs to illuminate.
The is a pretty simple wiring trick to make the operate independently.
Why yours dont illuminate may well simply be bad bulbs...get out the multi meter & time to do some testing
