Throw out bearing issue

I installed my Type 4 engine into my 63 bus. I haven’t taken it out of the garage yet. When I press the clutch, I get a loud squealing noise. The clutch does work, and I am able to switch gears, but the squealing isn’t right.

I pulled the engine back out, and it looks like some unusual wear on the throw out bearing.

I purchased this engine used and was told that it has a 200mm flywheel. I am using the normal throw out bearing that was in when I was running a type 1 engine. I read that the 200mm flywheel uses the normal throw out bearing...

Below are some pictures. Any suggestions?!?

Thank you,
Andrew

You have an early throw out bearing with a late pressure plate . you need an early pressure plate like in the link I supplied . It is the easiest way , the late throw out bearing needs a guide sleeve on the gearbox that you do not have on an early box .

Potential the cheapest fix could be to acquire a;

and convert the one you have now to early type.

All though converting to the late style arrangement is probably best,

Thank you!

This makes much more sense now. I thought the bearing style was related to flywheel size, but it looks like it is really related to pressure plate style.

I’m looking at upgrading to the newer style throw out bearing. Looks like I need to add a sleeve, a new bearing, and new lever.
