You guys know of any buildable T4 engines for sale?
There's a few on ebay at pretty laughable prices.

a good place is craigslist. many folks get rid of cores pretty cheap there. I got 3-4 engines from rotted 914s and buses in past. harder nowadays...but out there.

Samba or CL. I bought my 1.7 core for $250.
Andy, btw from our chat recently I'm determined to show you huge T4 power on the dyno at 7500-8000 rpm.

Making power once on a dyno is one thing. Making usable power for extended periods of time in an endurance race is a completely different story.

Ah, I gotcha. Idk why I missed that in our last discussion. I thought you were stating that the engine couldn't exceed those outputs, even briefly.

Just last weekend.. Sacramento Bug O Rama..
Was cruising the swap meet on Sunday as everyone was packing up,
Found three type 4 complete core motors for $10 each.
Since i didn't have room for all three,
I left the third one just sitting there in the field for whoever wanted it..
Stripping the two down, one was a 914 1.7 with a good lower end.
The other was a 2.0 in a 1.7 case that had only been run briefly.
Got two full sets of 1.7 rockers in the deal, too..
They are out there.
You have to be ready to act when they show up.

Andy, where in Indiana are you located? I sometimes run across T4 engines but only build T1, I am about 30 minutes south of Ft. Wayne. I will keep my ears and eyes open for you.

Thanks.
For practical reasons, I’m leaning towards a hot Subaru N/A build. There is however something very cool about building a T4 turbo to look like it could have been a factory option, like there’s a very cool factor with the Corvair turbo.
But we’ll see, it’s expensive, and parts are crazy hard to find for a T4.

I really can't connect with that statement. It's easy to find good cores for cheap at VW event swap meets and through friends at local VW clubs, and if you get a couple of them, most of the basic small parts are thereby inexpensive. I also find machine work to cost about the same as type-1 work -- reasonable. What parts are you having troubles locating?
