Now 2332 port blow through! Edelbrock 600*NOW WITH FITECH! on my daily 2276

Post by VdanielW »

So I’ve been running a Holley 2bbl 500 carb on my turbo’s2276 for years. It’s been street driven and ran down the strip and had always performed well- at the strip. Street driving could be a challenge in stop and go driving due to loading up at idle and fuel economy was horrible even trying to tune for good afr readings.
I recently made some changes (swapped my cam from the w120 to a w110, pulled the empi heads with Aj Sims pocket ports and 42x37 valve for some Aj prepped 40x35 CB 044’s) and added a 600 edelbrock performer to the mix. I was fortunate enough that a friend didn’t want the carb anymore and just gave it and a Carter afb to me free!
With the freshened up engine and the edelbrock carb new to it I am totally happy with results. It’ll idle as long as I need with no loading up, tuning is far superior to the Holley (for those not familiar with edelbrock it tunes very similarly to Weber IDF carbs) and I couldn’t be happier with the drivability.
It is my daily driver and it will be seeing not just around town driving, but plenty of 2hr freeway runs out of town.

Nice looking car.....
AJ's turbo header seem to be nicely designed for a compact fit in the engine compartment. I like that......
Does the hood fit with standoffs??

Yes. I’ve doubled up on the standoffs so I could fit the filter on top of the carb. Image

And added a muffler. First time having a muffler on my turbo engine.

Very nice looking car! That muffler hangs REALLY low. I'd have it smashed the first time out!

It does sit low, but I tucked it up against the header as close as possible. Not an issue normal driving, but if I’ve got a full car (people in the back seat) it will hit speed bumps. Other than that not an issue.

What's your jetting/tune on the Edelbrock?

I have an Edelbrock in my garage that I've considered using on a friend's 1915 draw through motor. I wasn't sure about some sort of boost reference or not

The factory jetting was very close. I'm shooting for good off boost fuel economy (already was able to reach 21mpg around town driving) so I'm tuning a bit leaner. currently I'm running a 95 jet in the primary (stock is 98) with two different rods, 73/42 with a silver spring, and a 75/47 with doubled up springs (silver and yellow). My car cruises steady at 65 around 17"hg, so I've jetted it to give me a 14.5-15.2afr at this point. With this jetting it gave me a lean spot on transition from idle (fat part of the rod) to the main (small part of the rod), so I've been experimenting with stretching the springs and now doubling up on the springs to bring the main in earlier, but only on the one side. It gives me tuning like idle, progression, main. As for the secondary I haven't touched it yet. the original 95 jet is showing me 10.9afr under boost.

A lot of conversation that might help. I was in the middle of switching from GM to Ford at the time so the confusion was confusing   .

Aj has a Qjet at his shop that the secondaries are so big they could suck in birds! It looks like something from a cartoon

I always thought a spread bore would be great for a turbo. Nice small primaries for good airspeed and then huge secondaries for spoiling up the turbo!

Primary Venturi in the 1406 model are 30.16mm
Secondary are 39.69mm
The small primaries make for a very good off boost runner.
