Hard to start when hot

Hi, everyone, back on the forum. My 2056 with twin Dells (DRLA 40) starts fine when cold, coughs and farts the first few blocks before waking up. Runs super strong and idles at 750-800 RPM, When I park it for a few minutes and try to start it again, it's embarrassing because everyone has eyes on my car and it cranks forever before it starts again. I suspect the dells.
Anyone experiencing this?
.

Could be fuel evaporation if they are getting hot - install spacers to isolate. Could turn out to be not enough volts at the coil for a good enough spark - fixed by a hot start relay if you have resistance through old wiring. Just some ideas...

I was thinking too much timing or fuel evaporation also. In my 914 I could hear the fuel boiling in the bowls of my 914. I put phenolic spacers between the idf 40s and the manifolds to cure the problem. I also have the stock spacers between the heads and the manifolds. That solved the heat soak issues.

I have dells worth the same problem even though I have a spacer. Let me know if you figure it out. On an open rear buggyso I'm surprised it's heat soak, bit that is what everyone blames. That said I've never got my idle mixture right so my tune doesn't help.

Thanks, maybe I used the wrong words.
Cold engine, first start is not a problem.
Any start when the engine is not cold is a battery challenge because of the long crank time.
I have spacers, electronic ignition, good timing, etc.
Yesterday, removed both carbs and cleaned all jets and both float valves, check valves, using a ultrasonic cleaner.
No improvement.

Hate to start being negative, but had similar problems years ago. I would drive my bug for 30 mins in hot weather and it would not restart unless it cooled down.

In an emergency I would slowly hose it down with water and go on my way.

Bottom line check your valves, if tight when hot may stay open and no compression.

Mine was I needed a rebuild.

Thanks, Joe, I have not been inside the valve covers in ages.

Thats Ok, but now you may have found your answer before you cause some damage.

#3 like in T-1 is usually the problem valve but check them all.

It's a T4, 2056 with Dells . It's parked until I sort this out, need to locate new valve cover gaskets before I pop them open.
To be continued...…..

I Usually buy a bunch of them from aircooled.net -- I hate when one side leaks after a valve adjust . First the smell then the smoke then the leak.
For some reason one is all ways hard to seal.?

I usually do the same. I buy 10 valve covers at a time. Fortunately the cork ones don't go bad as long as they are kept in the original packaging.
