Electric Type 4 cooling shroud/system

Saw this electric T4 cooling system on the samba and wanted to share:

I really doubt that would work. They tried electric fan cooling on a Corvair and failed big-time -- electric fans simply don't push enough air.

The only way an air-cooled engine works is by pumping a massive amount of air at an extremely high velocity over the cooling fins, I know even on a type-1, the fan draws about 17 hp (look up dyno runs with the fan disconnected). A type-4 would be an even bigger power draw. Those two little electric fans even combined are maybe a 1 hp at most.

Electric fans work on a water cooled engine because there's massively more cooling area, and what matters is the total air-surface area.

Plus, electric fans aren't designed to be run continuously, they're only designed to run intermittently, when the car's still and there's not enough air flow through the radiator because the car's moving. Air-cooled engines need the fan running continuously because you don't have the natural air-flow from the car pushing air through it.

It is possible to cool with electric fans , but you would need to run a higher voltage system , big power brushless motors etc .Even with say 5hp at 14volts you need a system capable of almost 270 amps ! it's easier and more reliable to cool it the old fashion way .
