T4 workshop manual

Post by MegaManx »

Hi everyone, Im looking for recommendations for a good T4 workshop manual, or more specially for a complete listing of torque and tolerance specifications. Up until now ive just been working off bits and pieces form the web but it would be great to have a complete book that i can make notes to.
So what are you guys using? Is there a Holy grail of workshop books? Are the decent ones still available?

I got my torque and tolerance specifications for type 4 from Haynes (Volkswagen_Beetle_&_Karmann_Ghia_1954-1979, but there is some data fot type4 engines if I remember correctly). And shoot me a PM with your e-mail, I have a pdf workshop manual for bus 1.6 and 1.8 engines and 002 and 003 gearboxes.

Link to 914 engine workshop manual (near bottom of that page). Maybe differences compared to bus T4 but much will be the same.

The 914 workshop manual looks like its exactly what I'm after! I will print it out and bind it.

Thanks Wreck, I'll put the note in first thing.

Here is the link to the Bentley manual, covering type4. The other german manual I can send from home, because it is a large file and I do not have access to file transfer platforms from work.

And for German speakers, here lots of other bus manuals: http://www.michaelknappmann.de/bulli/mi ... parat0.htm
With a link to the German repair manual, including the 1.8 engine (I think these are the slides from my other manual in pdf). Navigation is a bit tricky but you get the hang of it. http://www.michaelknappmann.de/bulli/mi ... frame.html

One of the best manuals out there for torque values and for transmission data is the "without Guesswork" manual

The red one....types 1, 2, 3 and 4 1971-1974 is the one you want.

Now that you said that, I looked through my scanned manuals and found WOG October 72, covering Type 1, 2, 3, and 4.

I would be interested in having a look at that, is it a size you can upload?
