I'd like to get some opinions about what inside diameter oil line is right for a nose-mounted oil cooler.

My Porsche friend is at the Baja 1000 this week and next, I'll ask him what size he uses on his 914/911's.

Sorry it took so long, on his Porsche stuff he uses -18 to cooler and -20 return. When he did VW's, he said he never encountered any problems with 1/2" line both directions.

Re: Oil Line Diameter
I was just consulting with someone who's built a few of these and was told that -10 was adequate for these vehicles. This is with me using a Porsche 993 oil cooler up front as well.

Re: Oil Line Diameter
I would use 1/2" line for this type of front cooler install to keep the pressure drop acceptable.

Follow question on this.
I am just breaking in my new 2.4L engine and am getting pretty high oil temps. Considering installing a front cooler. Is my 26mm oil pump adequate to handle a front cooler set up?
I would use -10 lines

Re: Oil Line Diameter
Yes, AN10 will do it but AN12 is better. You must plumb directly from the pump to the filter to the cooler.
We have successfully run a road racer off a 26mm pump, tapped from the case top oil cooler adapter to the filter to a nose-mounted (under the front bumper) cooler and back again, 10AN lines. The cooler was the old style tube and fin type. Less restriction. Ran very cool. Most people will tell you not to do this, but doggone it worked well for us.
