Sorry, another 2270 build.

Hi,
I have been doing lots of reading regarding various builds and am aware some information is guarded.

I have a t2 campervan 1978 and have been purchasing parts as funds allow.

I’m after a motor that is fun, takes the hills at ease and fast if this is possible oh and to not overheat.

However I believe I may have some wrong parts and would appreciate some guidance.

I have a complete type 4 2l motor
Dpr 78.4mm crank with type 1 journals
CB performance type 1 h beam rods 22wrist pin and 5.325” long

LN engineering/ type 4 store. Camper special heads
LN engineering/type 4 store camshaft kit with #9590 cam.

About to purchase EMW 96mm cylinders

I can exchange the heads if they are not suitable, would I need the R/S+ or LE200

The cam requires 8:1 compression

Recently I read a reply Jake Raby had given to another poster asking and he said that a good setup would be the 2270 build with the R/S+ heads and my cam but at 9:1 compression.( this goes against his recommendation for this cam that states 8:1)

Has anyone built something similar or have any proven recipes

All this is making my head ache and is spoiling my fun collecting my parts to discover I’ve made bad decisions.

Was Jake’s comment perhaps related to a type4 in a 914 or Beetle? A van has a lot more aero drag which means the engine has to work a lot harder at highway speeds.

I don’t think you necessarily have a bad combo.

Are you planning on running heater boxes or a header?

How about induction?
Aftermarket FI or maybe carbs?

Lots of different was to go depending.
