Woo Hoo! I finally picked up the 356 engine for my Ghia yesterday. It was in a little worse shape than we had thought so the seller threw in a bunch of spares for it. Cool!
At this point it's pretty much a given it'll need to be rebuilt first, so I'm not counting on it being in the car any time soon. It's probably going to be a while before I can even start working on it. I need to work on the front end of the car (king and link pins at least), and probably rebuild/install the 356 front brakes I have, and I just started putting a website together, and...

Spyke, when it comes to stripping down or rebuild the motor, if you want a hand, email me. I used to rebuild these engines all the time.

Thanks for the offer, Michael.
I'm trying to get my shop in shape before I tear into this one, but I hope to get on with it very soon...

Well I finally got to tear into the 356 engine... got some good news and some bad news.
The bad news is... One of the heads is NASTY. One side is filled (literally, the intake port is FILLED) with this white, kinda sand-like junk. The other has a bunch of green MUD in it!
It was the strangest thing, I pulled the spark plugs and turned the crank, and after spraying the wall with a bunch of mud, this green liquid started running out all over the floor. It looked like antifreeze! Sort of a "What's wrong with this picture?" kind of thing... I'll bet not many people have seen antifreeze dripping out of a 356 engine.
I have pics that I'll post on my website soon. (I plan on chronicalling the re-build as I go)
Oh yeah, the good news is, the seller threw in an extra head so I don't have to try to recondition this one. And the head on the other side looks like it'll be fine.
Other good news/bad news... the good news is, it came with big bore cylinders installed. The bad news is, they have some rust on the bores and probably aren't useable...
But the engine was thought to be seized when I bought it, so I figured the cylinders would be wasted anyway. (It wasn't seized after all.. it was hydro-locked. See "green liquid" above)
