IRS trailing arms and axles

I have a type 1 with irs suspension. I am looking to narrower my rearend, my question is are the type 3 irs suspension narrower than a type 1, also would it bolt on to a type 1 chassis?

Same transmission, same CV joints, same driveshaft length, same stub axles, same control arms... the Type III rear track is slightly wider (if rims of the same backspace are fitted) but that's because of the wider brakedrums.

Several suppliers sell narrowed trailing arms and axles. I think California Import Parts has them in stock. www.cip1.com
