Dog house...manifold ?

If I am thinking what you are thinking the tubes are for the heating system but if you block them off all the cool air that is supposed to go through them is redirected over the cylinders keeping your engine cooler. some say it is bad because the motor will not reach the proper running temp.

I own a Bus with a type 1 motor in it. I notice in some pics in magazines show the tubes that go from the dog house to the manifolds (2 of them..1 on each side of the motor) are missing and it looks like they block off the holes...arent these the tubes that give you heat in the cabin of your vehicle?... and why would people block these off???
