I have got to get a smog check on my 74 VW Westy, I have a 2.0 914 engine with 44 Idf's it will not pass the visual inspection. I have a 1.8 that has 96mm pistons and a stock FI cam. Can I use the L-jet Fi from a 74 914? will the increase in displacment mess with the FI's ability to meter the fuel? I just need it to pass then I will put the 2.0 back in. should I replace the 96's with 93's or can I run it with the 96. Steve
To use a 914 in a Type2 Bay, you will not be able to check the timing thru the hole on the fan housing. Mark the timing by using the hole in the case for the bolts on an AT flex plate near #3. Paint one color for TDC and another for Max advance do this with the motor on the ground. Line up timing marks on fan then paint mark thur hole.
