transporter transaxle

Does anybody know what year from '68 to '80 VW bus transaxle would be the strongest for a off road style of driving in a type 4 powered Baja Ghia.
Also is there a way to tell if the transaxle has limited slip---are the limited slip transaxle marked in any way?
