Does anybody know if any of the parts suppliers sell the plastic plug for the fan above the engine in a '73 Bus? I have one that is burned up and can't find ANY type 2's in the local junkyards. I'm also looking for the egr crap things that screw into the cylinder head, right next to the intake manifolds.

Thanke,

dude,

there is a pretty good place called bustedbus.com. they have pretty good supplied for busses, and if you are far away from a junkyard (and how many busses are there in junkyards these days anyhow...) then they might be the ticket. thay are active on the type2.com mailing list and are well regarded in "the community". the plug will be no sweat, the egr stuff harder, but not impossible, i'm sure.

Here's a couple of other places you could try:

The sensor that taps into the head is actually a head temperature sensor. Bus Depot and all the others new part suppliers will have one.

Not sure of the price though?

i think it is the air pump bungs into the head that we are looking for. that is why i suggested busted bus, since i don't think they are available new anymore. most of us just plug up the holes and lose the air pump completely, depending on the emissions regs in your region.

Yeah you are right Scott I need to plug up the holes that lead into the exhaust port in the head. I ordered a cylinder head temperature sensor to put in it. The 'plug' I was talking about in the original post is the electrical connector that connects to the relay on the electric fan in the engine compartment.

Thanks everyone for the great info.

Are you looking for the tubes that screw into the head for the airpump system, the plugs to block them off, or as Pillow suggested...the single screw in sensor plug on the left hand head? The sensor shoud run between 28 and 34 bucks...anything more...and go somewhere else. The timing hole plug you are refering too is available from west coats metric, and rocky mountain motor works as well. Just be sure you don't need the one that has a air supply elbow coming out of the center of it. Some models had this supplying air pressure to the charcola cannister, but very few. Ray

Joe if you need a cylinder head temp sensor I`ll give you one. I have one and my engines are cabuurated.
If your car will start up and run normally then die in about a mile, refusing to restart until cooled down completely then most likely the temp sensor is faulty. Let me know. Bob
