Early or Late BN4 Gas Heater?

Post by vwbusman215 »

Anybody know which is a more desirable unit. I have heard the early models are more prone to fire etc... because they have more seals for the pressure regulator and whatnot, but then also heard that the later model's fuel metering system can be troublesome? Anybody have any experience or information on this. I've been wanting to put one in the bus for a while and thought I would check here first. Thanks everyone.

I had a BN4 in a 1972 Superbeetle that I owned in about 1982-1985, and never had any problems with it. Worked well.

Currently, I have a 1975 Van with the BA6, which is a similar system to the BN4 electrically etc, except its under the van and inline with the heat from the heat exchangers. A little basic maintenance got it going, and has kept it running.

There are manuals online, do a search, there are a few threads on these things already. Goodluck, make sure you get ALL the bits if you buy one, check the manuals to see what all the bits are, including the under the dash stuff.

Any idea what a complete early model BN4 is worth? Its got basically all the stuff except the recirculation vent. Even includes the bowden cable, etc...?

Thanks

They have alot of info on gas heater online. VW Planet is particularly usefull.

Look at http://www.thesamba.com for the website. They have alot of info, diagrams, etc.

As far as what it's worth, just like everything else w/ VW's. It's only worth what someone will pay for it.
