I have just bought a bus(for parts) with a lost title and would like to know what model it is. I have the numbers from behind the passenger seat but do not know how to interpret them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The numbers are as follows:
426 025 114
U8 2213 421781 1208769
The motor number is:B 616735
Thanks again
David

What year model?
Hiya Dave,
The numbers in your post APPEAR to be off the M-Code plate. There is a bunch of neat info in these numbers, however they will NOT tell you the year of manufacture (they'll give you the day and week but not the year!). For that you will need to find the VIN, a 10 digit number starting with a 2.
This is most commonly found in either (or both) of two places. Just ahead of the driver's position on the dash and visible through the front windshield should be a plate riveted to the frame of the bus. It should contain that VIN. If not there look in the engine compartment on your right hand side. On the "floor" of the compartment just to the inside of the battery area, you should find that number stamped into the sheet metal. If the engine compartment is dirty it may take a bit of cleaning to locate.
The long and the short of it is this..... The third number in that 10 digit VIN will identify the year of manufacture. For example, this VIN - 2202256741 indicates a 1970 build - the zero indicating the zero in 70.
Also, for what it's worth (may not be much) the engine number you have given indicates a B series engine. If original (not all that likely) it would point towards a manufacture in 1969 or 1970 as those were the only years B series engines were installed in Type 2s.

Thanks for the info. Part of what is confusing me is the fact that it is a split window and has the reducers on the rear but also has 1600 on the motor cover. It is a single port. I will try to locate the vin.
Thanks again,
David
