Removing Westy sink/stove

Post by madjon »

I am trying to remove the sink/stove unit from my 79 Westy, so I can remove the cupboard unit to restore. All is loose except that I cannot undo the flexible propane hose from the underside of the grill unit. Just confirm with me that this needs to happen and, is it sealed there when built. I just cannot seem to budge where they screw together. Any helpful tips?

I don't have a Westy, but I do have a similar campervan conversion so may be able to help.

I was definitely able to remove the flexible hose from the stove. What helped was first unbolting the stove so I could get good access to the junction. Also, with a bit of extra effort (taking the air vent off the outside) I was able to get to the other end of the hose and undo that too.

The reason I was taking out the hose was that the rubber had perished and it was leaking. If your hoses are original, it's worth seriously considering replacing them rather than have gas leaking inside your van!

This is just a guess, but you might want to double check the threads. Some gas fittings use a reversed thread. Turn it clockwise to loosen...

Good Luck!

Gentlemen,
Thanks for your imput. The thing was just so tight, but my local lube place had a 19mm pipe wrench which did the trick.
