Rear brake mysteries

Post by DingoDog »

Westy '82: Why didnt they just go with disc all-around...this toilet-bowl technology belongs in a museum.

So I noticed that the two-hole screwdriver star adjustment of the 70's has been reduced to one-hole, where no screwdriver can fit. And the Bentleys says to eye-ball the diameter at 98.752mm or some laughable nonsense. Does the peep-hole tell me anything other than that the brake-shoes are still attached ?

Is there a simple method for drum-brake adjustment for 82 Vanagoon ?

They're self-adjusting brakes. You can back off the self adjuster up under the wheel cylinder to remove drum. You set them up just to get a little drag as you re-install drum. Check to make sure that the spring pulls the adjuster lever correctly before you reinstall. It's easy.
