paint to prevent rust

Post by lynn »

I want to protect my trunk area from rust - but don't want to have the car professionally painted yet - any recommendations on what kind of paint to use inside the trunk area - before I put new carpet in there?

thanks -

Well, if you're gonna cover it, I'd guess Rust-o-leum would work. Just don't paint the wires!

There's only one permanent option: POR-15. It's specifically designed for just such an application. Also, floor pans, wheel wells - anywhere you won't really see it. You will only ever have to do it once.

I personally like Eastwoods Corro-less better than por-15. All the off shore oil rigs can't be wrong. Have a car that I painted w/this stuff
on the rockers 5 years ago that has yet to be painted & still not 1 speck of rust!

what if you already have rust? i am not ready to fully paint my car, but i would like to get rid of the rust spots, or at least stop it from spreading...

do you just paint over the rust spots or does the rust need to be removed first? if so how do you do that, sanding?

Corro-less says to sand off the loose scale & spray or brush it on.This
completely seals out all moisture & stops the rust from further spreading
I have used a sander, wire brush, etc. Either way,get off all the loose scale
before using either product! LMK if you have any other questions as I have been a body man for over 25 years.
