gas gauge

My gas gauge likes to sit on half full - even when it's completely full and then totally drops to empty when it's gone- any suggestions on how to get it to be accurate - although I hear this is "normal" - ? What should my mpg be on a 72 ghia? Right now it looks like 21 - but I think that's way low-

Yeah, 21 is pretty low for a stock engined Ghia. High 20s is more reasonable.

damn.. i get about 12 in my stock 72.

maybe i just need to rebuild it
