wheeladapters for Porschewheels

Post by Humby »

Hello everyone,
I have some very nice original Porsche cup 1 wheels, that I like to fit on my 1977 camperbus. The problem is that I have to fit some adapters. Is it save enough for a bus to install them (due the weight of a bus)?
Does somebody have good/bad experiences with it? Are there safer/better options?

Let me know,

I have Porche 944 turbo wheels on my 64' with wheel adapters. Personally i think they suck. they put alot of extra leverage on, and i had a problem with the drum splines wearing out. I am looking for a way to have the wheels with out the adapters. I could just re-drill the drums but it would pull the wheel in to far. Any advise please let me know.

Adapters blow a$$. Should be illegal to sell really.

Trade them for some nice Audi or Mercedes wheels whic can be fitted much easier to a bay.

You can get porsche wheels on a bay but it is difficult. Essentially need to use a front system from an early 944 (call Old Speed) and the rear needs specially relocation of the wheel studs, some say dangerous so if you can find blank rear hubs that would be best (good luck).

Ditto. Trade them for some big 17" Mercedes ones.

Hi
If you do go to Porsche 944 brakes at the front, you can get rear hubs for a bay in the Porsche pattern from Creative Engineering.

You can get some wheel packages which fit the late bus from gowesty.com. While they are not cheap they are set up correctly for this type of bus. Worth checking out, and I think they give a nice clean look to the bus.

Audi wheels with 5 x112 late bus pattern

Audi models 100/200 or 4000/5000 here in the US have the correct bolt pattern. If you follow the recent article in one of the VW mags you can correctly modify these wheels in a afternoon. For $150 with tires these wheels are not a bad option, check go westy's prices. If anyone is interested you can email me direct at t2guru@charter.net
