Probably been done to death but.... Here's the proposed set up:
1970 ghia
Porsche 914 mag wheels (Pedrini)
195 x 50 x 15 front tires
If I go with 2 1/2" dropped spindles, will there be enough clearance for the tires if I stay with the stock front beam??? Some guys have said I will need a shortened front beam to make this work. Anybody know for sure before I buy dropped spindles?
Gerry
yet another wheel clearance question

dropped spindles
We added dropped spindles on a stock beam with 8-spoke rims running 50 series tires and they peeled the fender when making a turn. Had to add coil over front shocks to get the clearance. Plans include a narrowed beam when funds are available.

i think you will have to narrow a bit. if you use the cb performance dropped spindles and real porsche wheels (not repop) you will be close to clearing. i would still narrow about an inch per side to be safe. that way, you wouldn't even have to roll the fender lip. i can send you pictures of a chewed up fender lip, it's not pretty!
Hi,
Will Midland (MWS) BRM replicas fit my 1960 ghia, slightly lowered front end (adjuster welded in torsion bar tubes), otherwise stock w. original brakedrums both front and rear.
Thinking of these possible configurations;
Which will look the best and which will work?
A)
Front end: 4,5 inch wide BRM with 145 Firestone F560 tires
Rear end: 5,5 inch wide BRM with 165 Firestone F560 tires
B)
Front end: 5,5 inch wide BRM with 145 Firestone F560 tires
Rear end: 5,5 inch wide BRM with 165 Firestone F560 tires
C)
Front end: 5,5 inch wide BRM with 155 Firestone F560 tires
Rear end: 5,5 inch wide BRM with 165 Firestone F560 tires
D)
Front end: 5,5 inch wide BRM with 155 Firestone F560 tires
Rear end: 5,5 inch wide BRM with 175 Firestone F560 tires
E)
Front end: 5,5 inch wide BRM with 155 Firestone F560 tires
Rear end: 5,5 inch wide BRM with 185 Firestone F560 tires
I want to keep the rest of the car as stock as possible, will NOT cut any metal to make it work! I've been running with stock rims and 165 tires with no problem other than that front tires will touch inner part of fender when steering maximum.
regards /Johan
