Hi, my name is Kobi Skot and this May, my girlfriend and I will be taking a journey completely around the USA in my restored 71 VW Bus to find all the great things this country has to offer. I have set up a website to document our journey every step of the way and so you can let me know where the best places are. I will also be photographing and filming a documentary of our travels. We will be leaving SW Colorado in mid May and plan on making it all the way around to Washington sometime late fall. I would like for everyone in America to have a little vacation time with us and something nice to reflect on ? this great, beautiful country. We are planning on leaving SW Colorado mid-May and would love to have some other rides come out and join us on the road or camp with us along the way, we'll have some great times!
If there is anyone that would like to help support this journey, we could work out a deal with my photography and video or audio for your own purposes. Please give
www.homeontheroam.com a look and if you like what you see, help me get the word out about this great American road trip and maybe we can all have a little fun in this wonderful place we live!!!
Thanks,
Kobi Skot

If you need a place in Minnepaolis, contact me....
Our Bug In is on June 6.. I'll pay your admission when you show up to it.
NOTE... If memory serves right... Type2 website has a registry of bus owners... may come in handy when you break down.
You are bringing a spare engine on a trailer aren't you?

haha and no we will not be towing an extra engine...I know it'd be a good idea though! My engine was rebuilt last summer and I feel it's still running good and has some good riding left in it! If i run into problems don't worry, you guys will know first off 'cause I'll be in here like crazy trying to get it fixed!
Where is the type 2 registry? Is that not the same as the Bus Barn here or is it a whole other site?
thanks again

Kobi....
For a trip like this, you'd be smarter with a complete spare engine...
It's a good luck charm.... when you brake down in North Dakota, where will you get parts...
You complete turnkey type 4 spare engines should be available for about $350-500... They fit very comfortably on a small utility trailer.
I've had valve problems on a newly assembled engine... 30 minutes later we were back running --- not trying to figure out who in Nebraska had metric parts.
Why carry spare parts when your spare engine has them all bolted together.
We could start a list of people who wish they would have the spare good luck charm engine.
I'm not a bus guy --- there is a registry on one of the bus-only sites.

Hmm...Thanks! That's something to think about, I was already planning on carrying some of the smaller parts (distributor and such) but I guess if it was all put together already that would be a bit easier! I will look around and see what I can find. We also dont have a little trailer or hitch so...yeah, we'll just have to see.
Thanks again!

Kobi...
People laugh and labast me for carrying a separate engine... I'm laughing every time I suggest someone do the same... on trips like yours they eventually drop a valve or something....
I'm sure you know that a type 1 will bolt onto your truck (not fun or easy) but would get you to semi-civilization while passing through Montana.
I mean this in the most sincere way --- get a hitch... borrow a trailer... tow a spare.
If we're lucky someone will post in with the type 2 org address.
Good luck --- sounds fun... look me up in Minneapolis... We have a lake property you can camp out at if you're interested.

Thanks T,
I'll look around and see what I can do about taking a spare - I'd better be safe than sorry! Hopefully I can find someone with an extra trailer or something...we'll see!
I'll be attending a Bug In in Minn. around June 6, I think. so I may take you up on some camp space too! Thanks!

alrighty, so we're in Ohio now! We're making our way around and things are going great...most of the time! THe brakes did go out in WY but so far the engine is running like a dream!! We'll be heading into the NorthEast after independance day and hopefully we'll get to meet a lot of y'all. Things were kind of crazy getting across the Norethern Border states but now we're close to the great lakes (we had to scratch Superior for now because we're so broke! But we've been given everything we need when we really need it and it;s just been an amazing trip so far!

Wild idea. Sounds like a lot of fun and memories. My older brother did a trip like this with a friend on motorcycles in 1972. He still talks about it. When you get near Oklahoma if you need anything let me know.
