Bugster

Post by MUTTLEY »

Here is the bug that I just built for my old man. He has been playing the same Lottery numbers since 1978 (he has only won 50 bucks once), and he told me a couple of years ago that if he ever won he would like to buy a little sports car, so... I built him this (roadster bug) for his 60th birthday present. I surprised him with it last week, only in primer so he could pick the color. It will be British Racing Green. I got it 2 years ago for free. It was a '74 standard sedan sunbug, lots of rust, had been sitting in a field besides the road for the last 10 years in NY (lots of road salt). Shaved, chopped the windshield, suicide doors (custome hinges), 3.5 dropped spindles w/ discs, home built 2.2L T4 (10:1 comp, SS pistons, 112 LC, 44 IDFs) wrapped W/ a Raby DTM. Frenched License, lid chopped 5", I built the rear with a custom frame work and sheet metal. Phone Dial rims (diffrent offset front and back) I stripped and polished wrapped w/ Kumho's under 3.5 wider in rear 1.5 in front. Needs a little more work before I paint (sanding and details). Any ideas or constuctive criticism welcome.
Thanks

I like the suicide doors, and also a nice looking chocolate lab.

Thank you, but he's a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, 9 months, 92 pounds and hard headed as a cement block.

Yeah, I was just starting to break it down to get ready to paint it, and reliezed I should take a few photos to put on STF, so I just threw the steering wheel back on. Thanks, just finished his first season on Saturday 28Jan06, with putting down 3 Old Squaws (ducks) for him. I will put up a few more pictures as soon as it warms up again and I can paint. Thanks

Well, just received orders to Kodiak Island Alaska for the next few years(get to tool around in helo's, we leave in about 2 months), so I figured I might as well paint it and throw it back together for the time (so my father can play with it) being. It still has body work that needs to be done when I get back, but, it will work for now (even though it drives me nutts that its not finished and it was a quick, cheap paint job that I did). Wife took the pics while I was going through the electrical, two or three more days of liberty will get it on the road (also decided to change the rear tires to a bigger set). I'll through a few more pics when its out of the garage and in the sun.
