911 cooling temps

does any one here have a 2.0-2056 cc type 4 powered beetle? what are your carbs? what mpg do you get and what are your oil and head temps?type 4 4 rum is really ate up withthe dtm and it looks good just not as good as a 911 fan and duals do! i want to buy a 911 kit from mike at sharpbuilt au. down under...any one have any info as to the fitment of these? better deals or thing to look out for?
soon to be german look type 4 powered 77std hardtop, with the works
but a nice set of turtle back rims for a while.....
anyone want need porsche gauges? (914)?
or parts for the body? dash.....304-472-4396

The best guys to ask about this is the germans. Their is aguy in germany by the name of rolf klaus who i understand makes the best 911 shrouds for t4 engine, their is also remmele.

I did my install last year. I'm running a 2145 with 96x74 so only slightly bigger than you're considering. I've currently got 40DRLAs with 36mm vents. My kit was made up of bits from lots of people. Strap/botttom pulley are BAS, Oil filler is CSP and shroud came from a british company called GT Mouldings. You really have to chose carefully when it comes to Porsche fan and bottom pulley combination since the porsche fan top pulley size varies over the years. Mine is the biggest and is pre-75. However there are companies which will sell the whole lot as a kit and not even use a genuine porsche fan/alternator.
When it comes to economy, if I drive sensibly it doesn't seem to vary a lot from the original 1300 I had in the car but if I drive 'hard' I can watch the fuel gauge move.
Cooling is still a bit of a concern for me, I'm running an external cooler with auto switching fan and I've never heard it come on. So I'm a bit worried it's overcooling.

i have the csp kit with a 2276 type 1, 2qt sump 96 plate cooler System 1 oil filter and 10 -AN steel braided lines.normal oil change i use about 8 or 9 quarts of oil. i thought i had an over cooling problem as well. in the summer mid- july it tanks about 10-15 miles for the oil temp gauge to move then i havent had it over about 160 degrees. but it does warm up and the external cooling fan comes on. i love my shroud and fan kit. the dtm crowd kinda shuns them but i think it may just be a matter of taste. my head temps in the summer range around 260-285 degrees. every says thats fine.im pretty happy with it and it looks great.

Yeah i got a Sharpbuilt 911 kit, my advice is to source your own 911 fan and alternator, the one i got from him was all pitted and ugly looking and he charged me $900 for it, then the original alternator didn't work, so i had to fork out another $600 for a new alternator made here in australia which absolutely sh%^s all over the frenchy one. Also if you get one get it without the oil cooler in the original position, i bought mine with the stock oil cooler duct and he didn't tell me that you have to cut the body to make it fit. If i was to do another upright conversion i would get the DTM from Jake, yeah it don't look cooler than the 911 but it cools better and is of abetter build quality and you get a video with it to install it. Sometimes i think i should just sell my kit and buy a DTM, also the finish quality on the sharpbuilt kit has a lot to be desired. Sure alot of people are happy with their sharpbuilt kit but, i aint. Buy the DTM it is made in the same country as you and save your self shipping costs.

Hello, I e-mailed sharpbuilt concerning their 911 system.
In my e-mail I fully stated I had a arced surface case. I wanted to know if his system would adapt.
He sent the info, when I say all the pieces I re-e-mailed asking for clarity about the bottom plate that bolted to the engine.
They just stated, the adapter was needed for their system.
I even sent a picture of my case, I did not want problems when I got the kit.
That left a bad taste, a bell went off "don't do it with a sharpbuilt" it took a member on STF to clarify.
If his system is lacking, and by now he should know this, he should inprove the problem areas

Not to jack this thread, but I've got a fan/ring/alternator/adjustment tool from my now deceased 79 911SC (worked perfectly but couldn't stop the redlight runner).
Let me know if you're interested

Interesting, did you ever measure the head temp on all the cylinders, as people claim that the temp varies from cylinder to cylinder?

I have a 2056 but I have the DTM, too. I will answer your other questions anyway.

I get low 29's if it is mostly highway and I force myself to keep it under 70. I tend to enjoy my little upgrade a bit more, however, and so 24.5-26 is more typical for me in mixed driving.
By comparison, my stock 1585 Type 1 was never lower than 22.0 and was as high as 32.3 whereas my 2056 Type 4 was never lower than 23.1 and its best is 29.3.

My head temps have never been higher than 250ºF, 260ºF, 310ºF and 300ºF, respectively, for the four cylinders. Those highs were on my return trip from the engine's install in Georgia to Maryland. Since then (last September), I have had a few tweaks done to it. Cylinders one and two still max out the same; cylinders three and four are typically 10º-20º cooler now.
Oil temps have never been over 200ºF since the oil cooler was replaced with another stock Type 2.
