WIP - '67 Deluxe Bus 3D Model

Post by mind_warps »

Hi all.
I found this forum searching for refence images to my latest 3D model, a VW 67 Deluxe. If you have visited TheSamba.com you have probably already seen my work in progress.
Anyway, Im have already got alot of help on this project... but it never seems enouf as I always encounter new chalenges to find god reference images so I can make the bus justice. As many of you been restouring your buses, my hope is that you can help on the reference images. Specialy on this stage of the modeling as the details are a challenge.
Currently Im in need of images of the bottom of the car, transmission, etc.
Feel free to give me your critics and comments.

Every VW Bus needs nice navcap and a steering wheel right ?

As I decided to do this a 67' model insted, Im now redoing some parts of the back, nothing mayor tho.

Tested some metal/Chrome

I'm finaly finish redoing the back to match a '67, there was more work to it then expected but as someone told me "we do it bether when we start over again".
Anyway here you have a new test render, I did also model the backlight.
As always, feel free to give me your C & C.

I started to rufly do the bottom of the car using just some basic shapes. As usual I have very bad reference images, so any help would be appreciated. The parts are uppsidedown btw.

I did a new render with some minor changes and also placed arrows in it with my problem areas.

Im currenty, just collecting referens images and prints so have some base to start doing the gearbox and the engine. I have already adquire some good prints of them, but any additional that could help me get all the parts and shapes right would be useful. As always, if the images or prints are taken in a straight angle they are the best.

I started modeling the gearbox, but it seems almost imposible without good reference and prints becouse of the amount of details.
Please help me out with some reference material if you can.

Interesting stuff!

Check this link:

http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=95694

It is a Type I trans, but should be quite similar in most respects to the '67 bus unit, at least the basics. Does this help? The color may help you distinguish most of the different pieces.

I currently have trans out of car and can take pictures. Is there something in particular that would assist you. Remember, mine's a Type I, so it won't be exactly the same..

Thx for your post doc.
Those images would be a nice addition to my reference.
It would be greate if you could take some images of your trans. The small details and images of it in staight axis angle of all the sides(front, back, up, down, and the sides) would do my day.

Anyway... thank you very mutch for your help.

MW,

I have about 15-20 pics you may be interested in. Straight off the camera, they are about 800k files. The pictures are almost 2300 pixels wide. I will shrink them to 500 pixels wide to publish here, but really don't know that I want to publish 20 pics here.

Why don't I email them in a couple of seperate emails to you? Do you want the full size files or smaller? Let me know how you would like to do this.

Greate doc.
The best way is if you put all of them in a zip/rar file and uppload them to a free file host like http://www.freefileupload.net/. You could then send me a private message with the link. It's very fast and easy.
The original size would be greate.
Thax for the help

That's beautiful! Any chance of getting a copy of the file when you're done?

@DurocShark : Sorry man. I don't think that it would be fear as I already have sold copys of the bus to others.

I textured and testrendered the surfboard.
The material still needs some tweaking.
Feel free to give me your critics and comments.

Btw... thax 4 the images doc.

Those are some cool pics.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.
