Corrosion on my 911 fan!How to get rid of it?*PIC*
Can I wet sand it?If so what #? I usually get out the Mothers aluminum polish and go at it but whats the best way?

Has anyone anodised their fan and/or housing? What's it made of? Is it just cast aluminum?

Panel,
If the aluminum is not pitted yet, then use a maroon colored scotchbrite pad, or 1000 grit wet dry sand paper with some soapy water. Then polish with mothers. To keep corrosion from happening again, spray some clear on it. I've used Eastwood Diamond clear for bare metal, and two years later still looks new . This is on my Harley, so it gets lots of road grime on it. Still no problems with clear.
You can anodize the parts, but it scratches real easy. If you like the anodized look they have blue or red powdercoating at Eastwood Co. that looks just like anodizing, and is very scratch and chip resistant . Hope this info helps out.

the scotchbrite red (maroon) pad is rather coarse.
just for reference the scotchbrite grades from coarse to fine are as follows'
gold -coarsest
red
green
blue
grey
white-finest
for alum and mag i use green or blue followed by grey and white to get the scuff marks out.
On another note the eastwood co powder coat stuff is quite good and rather scratch resistant. Not as good as professional stuff but really good for home stuff.

panel you could find a local ( to you) shop that does anodizing and let them look at the parts. they should be able to let you know if they can anodize it. If they can insist on a "hard anodize" finish. it yields much harder surface and usually still comes in a couple of colors (clear and black the last time I saw it)
True hard anodizing will be as hard or harder than professionally done powdercoating.

Well I bugandy'd it then grey'd it then white'd it. Then I 1500 it wet sand over a warm soapy bucket. Then Mother polished it Do you like

they are magnesium. They will always continue to dull up no matter how many times you polish them. Even full polish will return to its dull state if you dont coat them with clear. You should prime and paint or powder coat. If you powder coat(or thick paint) before you do, file down the edges of the blades(slightly) or it will rub against the housing.

The best is to have it media or soda blasted.
You can anodize it.
Not all are from magnesium only the early ones up to 1976.
Porsche switched entirely from mag to alloy this year : engine cases,transmission case,fans etc.Only some "RS" still use mag ones.

I usually do it the easy way by using aluminium colored spray paint. There are paints that are not flaky like ordinary silver paint but have a smooth metal like finish. I like it because it looks very stock, like it came off the production line yesterday. I have stocked up with different shades from light silver to greyish titanium.

also make sure you pre-heat the part once or twice before actually clearing with powder or it will gas and not look so great! If ya get a good clear they will last for a long time.
